Resettlement Refugee Process

1. Eligibility Assessment
In order to start the process, Move Up assesses the strength of the application to verify feasibility of the case.
2. Book Appointment
Move Up secures an appointment at US consulate or Embassy (Pretoria, Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town).
3. Refugee Coordinator Reviews
US Department of State (DOS) reviews the referral and confirms acceptance into US Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP).
4. USRAP application prepared.
Resettlement Support Centre will explain the process and prepare the applicants Form I-590 application.
5. USCIS Issues US Refugee Visa
US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) then issues approval with Refugee Status.
6. Background Checks
US Customs and Border Protection conducts additional background checks at port of entry and admits refugee if elgibility.
7. Refugee Arrives in USA
Once all security considerations are met, the applicant is cleared and permitted to enter the USA.
8. Transitional and Social Assistance
Additional support provided by Domestic Resettlement Agency for orientation assistance.
